Gastronomic Experiences of Hotel Quinta San Francisco in Castrojeriz. Official Website.

Castrojeriz Inn

Castrojeriz Inn

The Inn of a lifetime

Just five minutes’ walk from the hotel you’ll find this classic Castilian tavern. A landmark not only for the people of Castrojeriz but also for all the neighbors of the villages in the Odra Pisuerga region.

Traditional cuisine,
with a set menu adapted for pilgrims and an à la carte option. They prepare roast suckling lamb on request. Our recommendation: the lamb chops.

Los Palmeros Restaurant

Los Palmeros Restaurant

Tradition and technique at the heart of the Camino

In the neighboring Palencian town of Frómista, just twenty minutes from the Quinta, you’ll find this renowned and award-winning restaurant.

Once a pilgrims’ hospital, it is now an almost obligatory gastronomic stop on the Jacobean route. Managed by the Rayón family, it offers updated Castilian cuisine with a wide selection of cheeses, extra virgin olive oils, and a good wine cellar. Reservations are essential.

Our recommendation: Palencian garden peas sautéed with squid, and the suckling lamb shoulder.

The Templars Inn

The Templars Inn

The temple of the suckling lamb

Located also in Palencia, in the small town of Villalcázar de Sirga, just half an hour from Castrojeriz.

Run by Pablo the innkeeper, it is a national reference for tasting the famous Churra lamb (lechazo).

A lively place with long shared tables that preserves the old, traditional charm of Castilian taverns and meals in the old-fashioned style. Our recommendation: Lechazo, salad, and San Marcos cake

La Tomasa Tavern

La Tomasa Tavern

Guardian of traditional Castilian recipes that are now hard to find

Just over half an hour from our hotel, in Villalbilla de Burgos, this family-run restaurant has been preserving the authentic flavors of Castilian cuisine since 1976. Game stews, tongue, pig’s trotters, or boletus with foie are just some of their specialities.

A place with soul, where tradition is served slowly and with care.

Santa Rosalía Estate

Santa Rosalía Estate

A gastronomic journey from the root to the plate

In the nearby town of Vizmalo, just 20 minutes from our hotel, we find this impressive estate where wine is cultivated, and red-legged partridges and Wagyu cattle are raised.

Their menu basically uses the products produced on the estate, without much sophistication, but with excellent quality and flavor.

Their meats and partridge salads stand out, and one should not miss their “caviar”, which is how they call their Wagyu cecina. Although the restaurant is large, it is highly recommended to book in advance.
