The name Castrojeriz comes from the Latin Castrum Sigerici, meaning “the castle of Sigerico,” referring to the ancient fortified castle that rises on the hill and gave rise to the town more than three thousand five hundred years ago. At its feet, a settlement developed that eventually received the oldest charter in Castile, a testament to its historical significance.
The town stretches almost two kilometers along Calle Real, one of the longest streets on the Camino de Santiago. Its churches, convents, and stone houses tell the story of pilgrims, merchants, and nobles who walked these lands for centuries.

Castrojeriz Castle
